University « Yahia Fares » acquired powerful supercomputersfirst of 19 Algerian academic institutions in Algeria’ squest to boost scientific research.
A national programme, overseen by the Directorate of Research and Technological Development, under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, will provide several universities with high-performance computing (HPC ) service which will allow researchers to carry out their work in the most advanced areas. Today,HPC has become essential in most fields of science and research.

Between 2004 and 2011 the first two phases of the EU-funded EUMEDCONNECT project provided a dedicated Internet network for the research and education (R&E) communities across the southern rim of the Mediterranean. This was the first regional R&E project outside Europe funded by the EU and paved the way for similar projects in other world regions. EUMEDCONNECT successfully connected the national research and education networks (NRENs) of Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia with each other and the European R&E community connected to GÉANT.

EUMEDCONNECT3 project upgrades Algeria’s research and education network capacity

Algeria has recently upgraded the international connectivity available for its scientists and academicians to 622Mbps through its participation in EUMEDCONNECT3, the regional high-capacity Internet network serving the research and education (R&E) communities across Northern Africa and the Middle East.

Algeria is a long-term partner in the EC-funded EUMEDCONNECT project and has seen its research networking capacity increase by a factor of 15 - from an initial 45Mbps in 2004 to the current 622Mbps to meet researchers' growing demands for high-speed international connectivity.
